The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute’s Clinical Education Initiative (CEI) is pleased to offer
CEI-LINE a clinical educational line for primary care practitioners that are providing care to people with HIV in New York State. Specific questions tailored to clinical decision-making often do not require a formal educational program or training workshop, but are rather best answered through a one-on-one dialogue.

The CEI-Line offers the clinician the opportunity to discuss clinical management issues and guidelines with an experienced HIV clinician. The CEI-Line is staffed by HIV Clinical Specialists who can provide information on the latest diagnostic and therapeutic advances and how these advances can be integrated into routine care.  For additional information visit the CEI Line website or call the toll free hotline:

Scope of Clinical Education Initiative Line Services

The CEI Line acts as a resource for clinicians that provide care and treatment to patients with HIV/AIDS.  Educational information provided by the HIV specialists includes: 

  • Clinical practice guidelines for the management of HIV disease
  • Early identification of HIV infection and management strategies
  • Antiretroviral threatment
  • Dosing recommendations
  • Drug-drug interactions
  • Commonly recognized side effects and contraindications
  • Treatment adherence
  • Diagnostic tests for specific opportunistic infections
  • HIV prevention and risk-reduction
  • Gynecological & womens health care
  • Indications for opportunistic infection prophylaxis
  • Recommendations for monitoring and ongoing medical follow-up
  • Referral resources for specialty care

What the CEI-Line Service Cannot Provide

These HIV Specialists will not meet with patients, keep patient specific records, and will not prescribe a course of treatment or pharmaceutical.  The CEI-Line services are not in any way intended to substitute for direct patient care or for a formal clinical consultation. The CEI-Line is not intended as an emergency management resource or as a method for co-managing patient care.
