Immunodeficiency Care Team

Clinical services for persons with HIV infection & Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) started at ECMC in 1984. Now known as Immunodeficiency Services, the department formed in 1988 in response to a growing need and was named the Designated AIDS Center (DAC) for the Western New York region by New York State Department of Health, AIDS Institute in October 1989.

ECMC's Immuno-deficiency Services Department is a resource center that provides HIV/AIDS clinical consultation and educational services to the Western New York community. Newly diagnosed HIV+ patients may be linked to care through the ECMC Expanded Testing and Outreach/Linkage Initiative by calling 716-898-5829.

Department physicians, nurse practitioners and pharmacists are on the faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and School of Pharmacy. The department has grown significantly since its inception, to include over forty professionals who deliver care to more than 1200 clients.

Immunodeficiency Services also plays a leading educational role in the Western New York community.  Staff members routinely speak to community groups and schools, and provide updated AIDS information to area health care providers through it's Clinical Education Program (CEI) and various other educational programs.  See What is CEI, Mini Residency Program and WREC for information regarding these and other training programs.
