A Statewide Network of HIV Clinical Education Programs

WHAT IS HIV CEI? PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Aids Institute New York State Department of Health

The HIV Clinical Education Initiative (CEI)

The healthcare community in
New York State faces an
enormous challenge in providing
comprehensive, high quality
clinical services to the growing
number of people with HIV
infection and AIDS, especially in community-based, primary care settings.
The New York State Department
of Health AIDS Institute can help
providers care for this growing patient population.
The Institute's HIV CEI provides community-based clinicians with:

  • access to experienced faculty from academic medical centers and State Designated AIDS Centers (DACs)
  • continued education for HIV experienced clinicians
  • early identification, diagnosis, treatment and prevention for clinicians new to, or less experienced in, HIV care
  • ongoing consultative support with HIV specialists

A Statewide Network of HIV Clinical Education Programs

Through HIV Clinical education programs across the state, each with access to the latest information technology, CEI enables practitioners to deliver the best care to patients with HIV. Individually tailored to meet the needs of different types of providers and health care organizations, programs include:

  • case conferences
  • lectures
  • preceptorships
  • satellite videoconferences
  • Interactive CD-ROM modules audio and videocassettes
